Special Education

Should handicapped children be educated?  There is a federal law that says they should be and that they have a right to a “free appropriate public education.”

So how do you think Louisiana is doing?

On June 4, 2021 the U.S. Department of Education issued a report that found that Louisiana was not meeting the requirements of the law and that we “need assistance.”  Unfortunately, Louisiana has not met the requirements of the law for “two or more consecutive years.”

To be fair, Louisiana is not the only state having trouble meeting the requirements of the law.  According to the report, which can be found at 2021 Determination Letters on State Implementation of IDEA (PDF) (ed.gov), only 22 states were meeting the requirements of the law.

If you or someone you know is having trouble getting an education for their disabled child, please feel free to contact us. We have experience with both the Federal and Louisiana education laws for handicapped children.
